As some of you may remember, I was contacted by the fine arts department of a local college and asked to exhibit some of my work in their fine arts building for the entire month of November. I just thought I would update you as to where I am as far as getting ready for the show and give you some of the costs I have incurred in order to exhibit.
I have a $450.00 budget ($250 honorarium from the college and $200 of my own). I have decided to show 18-20 prints. At this point I have purchased: 1. 6 ea. 14X18 frames, 6 ea. 16X22 frames and 6 ea 12X16 frames. Total with shipping--$131.70 2. Prints—6 ea 10X15, 2 ea. 12X18, and 4 ea. 8X12—total with shipping--$77.89; 3. Pre cut mats for all of the frames—total with shipping--$79.93; 4. Mounting tape, foamboard, wire—total so far $39.42. So, at this point I have used up $328.94 of my budget. All I have left to buy are 4 ea 12X18 prints, 2 ea 8X12 prints and 1 10X15 print. I estimate these to cost $64.50. This would put me at $394.34—well within my budget, and I may be able to frame a couple more prints with the frames I have on-hand (ones I didn't order for the show). |

Who are you using for the processing? Are the prints coming out to match your expectations? I'd think you'd be (I know I'd be!) very particular of the finished products considering the use.
Thanks for the update! |

I am using MPIX and Smugmug. So far the prints have exceeded my expectations.
I have a calibrated monitor, and I have asked that no color correction be applied to the prints. The biggest thing to remember is that sharpening that looks good onscreen may be too much when printed. |

Way to go (not surprised, your pictures are always so wonderful). What I find most interesting - maybe surprising, I guess, is the cost to get 20 pictures ready to exhibit. Its a wonder that professional photographers make any money at all.

I agree. I bought "closeout" gallery frames, used single layer mats and made my own backing board, so I probably got it done for less than most would have. I thought about investing in a really good mat cutter, but I just couldn't justify the expense.
