I bought a new 55-300 for birding. It fit my budget. The 50-200 is a little too short for birding at times, so decided to purchase the 55-300. This lens is quite good. Surprisingly sharp with a little processing. All these with the k100d and 55-300..cheers...Don

These are great shots! Definitely makes for a case in helping decide what lens to buy. My great deal lens when I first bought my DS was the Tamron 70-300mm 4.0-5.6 LD Di 1:2 Macro broke. I have been on the fence in buying another one and now with the added flexibility of being 55mm rather than 70mm will be something I could use more as a walk around lens.

Very nice, sharp pix. I too just recently got a 55-300 Pentax lens and am happy with it.

Looks like a good choice - very sharp, contrasty images.
![]() Assuming this is the Pentax lens, what are its close-up capabilities (macro ratio)? |

These pictures are excellent - the more I see from this lens, the more it looks like a really good buy. It actually might be tempting to get it - my 50-200 needs repair and I keep hesitating sending it in because I wonder if the repair would cost more than the lens is worth, and have been thinking about replacing it instead.

Thanks mntgal It's quite a nice lens, but quite a bit larger than the 200. The 200 is a pocket lens, and is great for travelling. You're probably right about getting it fixed. Might cost more than a new one...cheers....Don. |

Fantastic! These are the types of clear, crisp shots I'm envious of.
