Hi All,

After warming up to 60° last night, it was back to the 30's today. I decided to take a quick trip to the pond to try some other lenses on the gulls.

First, the A70-210 + F1.7x AFA. I figured that the quick focusing of the AFA might make it easier, but the combination of manual prefocus, zoom, and trying to pick up the birds in the viewfinder was a bit overwhelming. Maybe I could use it with some more practice.

The first three were taken with this combo, I was pretty much taken by surprise, so had no time to zoom to frame them properly, so I cut off some of the birds, but I still like the way they came out.

This is a full height vertical crop.

Different bird, also a full height vertical crop.

This is the next frame, only cropped slightly.

I switched to the FA*300 and got this before my hands stopped working from the cold (it was windy too)

The last is my favorite of the day, about a 40% crop. I did have to selectively fix some motion blur to the head with Focus Magic. Luckily it's a small enough part of the frame to not look unnatural.

Sorry about all the gulls lately, I'm just fascinated with finally being able to shoot some BIF. . . and it's just been too cold to get out and shoot in my natural mode.

Scott, I really like the composition on no. 1--perfect with the fish inside the beak! I tried to give the photo some "pop" by playing with the contrast and brightness. Unfortunately, it was difficult to work it thru to my satisfaction perhaps because of the smaller file size. Perhaps you may have better luck with the orginal file. Hope you don't mind the attempted edit...
