Velvet covered Antlers No rub marks
I was surprised these two bucks don't look like they have started rubbing off the velvet from their antlers yet. Looks like mother nature is running a little behind this year. Bucks are not rubbing their antlers yet and the Bull elk as of this morning still haven't started their bugling. ![]() ![]() ![]() His little friend still has his summer red color ![]() TOTALLY WACKY roger |

What beautiful animals, Roger! Don't get to see mulies around here...except for your posts, of course. #2 is definitely my favorite...little surprised that the 2 of them were that close this early. As far as them not shedding the velvet yet, isn't that a sign of a long winter? Or am I thinking of something else?
Thanks for sharing! Ron |

1. Long winter - Another thing to go along with this thinking is some of the deer and elk are already getting their winter coats. When the wint coats start coming in they loose that red look. Or 2. We have had a lot more late summer rain this year and it is still warm. Last night about dark I was out spotting for elk and when I got back to the camera wagon it was 67 degrees. I am guessing the rut is going to be late this year as I DID NOT hear any el bugling at all. TOTALLY WACKY roger |

Ira, nice photo thanks for posting it. I like moose especially when they are real young and all legs.

roger,
these are real nice and there's probably quite a few that haven't seen this before. i'll make a request tho. please don't post them after they start rubbing it off. it really hurts me seeing the bloody mess. roy |

Wonderful shots, Roger! And here I was thinking we might have an early fall - the temperture is horribly hot (we finally have a break from it today) but the cottonwoods are already starting to go yellow. I don't know if that means it's just been so dry the leaves are dying off early or if we'll really have an early autumn.
