I know the EOS boys are nervous about using the Vivitar 285HV on their cameras; I also know that a few Pentaxians are fearlessly using them on K10D cameras.
So, what's the general consensus? Safe? Or foolhardy? Thanks, -Mike |

Personally, I don't know if I'd risk it. use a safe sync if you really want to. I think the reported voltage is quite high for that one.

ck this site. FLASHit'll give voltages and tell you how to ck it yourself.
a pentaxUSA tech told me pentax had some high voltage flashes at one time so we were good to 300volts take it with a grain of salt because pentaxEU said 30volts. a safesync costs about $60.. i'd find a flash at below 30volts and use it. roy |

I use a Vivitar 285 and a 285HV, both tested at much less than 10V ( 6-8V to the best of my memory). Test the voltage on your particular flash before you mount it on the camera.

I use my 285HV all the time and have had no adverse effcts...That is on my K10d...Not yours...You have to be the one to check and decide!

I've got a good working Vivitar 285 HV that I've had for over 20 years. It's fantastic and I use on my Mamiya 2 1/4, Pentax K1000 (35) and old leica film.
But I am not going to take a chance with it on my new K10D. I will get a Pentax Digital flash. |

Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to answer.
Other research has indicated that the K10D can handle 16-25 VDC trigger voltages, but since there's nothing definative forthcoming from Pentax (that I can find), maybe I'll hold off. I do have a pair of Canon 300TL flashheads that trigger with 3.4 VDC; I may try those (manual only). Or maybe a $30 set of RF wireless triggers...eliminate the problem completely. |

Since we are on the subject of flash-has anyone had any experience with the AF360 on the K10d. I am sure this has been discussed before-I have not seen anything.
Thanks |
