Well, after searching through the wastebasket, it seems that I do have another, wider shot.
I made a few adjustments and here it is with the uncropped original. ![]() The original ![]() Hmmmmm? |

I find the one you redeemed from the wastebasket to be much better than the original post. The subject is much clearer.

Edited: You posted your second picture while I was trying to type, and didn't see it until later, so my first comment is really no longer applicable.
I like the second one, but would have also liked one that concentrated on the water way and the wheel, with much less of the building. However, I don't think you could have gotten that one without changing your position, something that wouldn't have been possiblegiven the situation there. In any case, it's a lovely scene and I wish I had been there. |

I prefer the one from the waste basket. The water wheel is shown in more detail and less of the distracting fence.
The water wheel approxamites the position of an intersection of the "rule" of thirds grid, helping focus the viewers eye on this key element of the picture. Now I don't miss the tree in this picture. Phil |

personally i feel the roof competes to much with the rest of the image
because it is so light it begs attention for me the thing that should have the attention is the water wheel maybe a crop to get rid of the roof or darken it ? i really do like the waterwheel area in both photos ![]() |

The black and white version works well, suited to the age of the subject.
There are acouiple of spots of un-weathered wood that blend in better in B&W. Obviously this is a very intersting subject offering many different interpretaions, that all seem to have merit. Phil |
