Welcome Randy!
@Ed lenses will be swapped in and out depending on what I expect to see. I won't list the usual stuff like batteries and lense cleaning kit etc. I plan on ending up with 7-8 lenses in total which is a lot considering that this is our family dSLR and I just want to be prepared for all kind of every-day-photography, holidays, vacation, travel and a little bit "hobby-stuff" zooms: - walkaround: P-FA 28-105/4-5.6 - wide end kit lense 18-55, (still struggling to find a replacement, would like to have more on the wide end but looking for a fast lense...) - tele end Kiron 80-200/4 (shootout Vivitar 70-210 vs. Kiron 80-200 still needs to be done, atm I use the Kiron) - on rare occasions (long tele or for the 1:2 macro capability): Tamron 70-300 - planning ona faster walkaround zoom, maybe Tamron/Sigma 28-70/2.8 or Viv 28-105/2.8-3.8 or the like, already got recommendations primes: - P-A 50/1.7 - P-K 135/2.5 - wide end still missing, best recommendation so far P-FA 31/1.8, but it's a bit pricey - ultra wide still missing, looking for something below 18mm special lenses: - 1:1 macro lense still missing, looking for something around 90-105mm - Pentax 1.7 AF adapter still missing also on my list: - good and lightweight monopod Happy snapping! |

![]() my current lense selection plans are based on what I took photos of in the past, when my interests shift I have to adjust, that's right. I have a real need for long range like 10 times a year or so (if we are talking about Bigma) - not often enough if you ask me. It is always tempting to have such a monster in your backpack if I see all the nice wildlife shots or the birds etc. - though. I am still glancing towards an affordable long telephoto + teleconverter solution, maybe a 300mm prime which is tack sharp wide open - that could give me 420..600mm, a dream would be a good 300mm "A"-lense plus the Pentax 1.7AF converter, which would go nicely with my other primes, too (50/1.7 and 135/2.5) but they are though through the roof and really rare, darnit.:sad: |

hmm.. If I recall correctly. I have the following:
DA 16-45 (on camera most of the time) F 28-80 3.5-4.5 (thinking of selling) DA 18-55 (sitting around) M 135 3.5 (haven't really used yet) Qauntaray 70-300 macro (thinking about selling, bad reputation but quality is OK IMHO) DA 50-200 (haven;t really used much either) Sears M 28mm macro Vivitar series 1 90mm 2.5 macro (screw mount) with 1:1 extension (limited usage but would love to experiement and play with this one) A 50 2.0 (on long term loan to a fellow pentaxian) FA 50 1.4 (used it a lot earlier, but it hasn;t been mounted for a while) I was thinking of selling some of the lenses that I hardly use but i'm a pack-a-rat. I like to keep everything thinking one day I will need it. Thanh |

Boy, I feel inferior now. I do get all my stuff in a Slingshot 100 bag, so it is always with me. The bad part is I once took my bag off to get some stuff for a picture and forgot it. I hiked around for several hours before I realized I didn't have my bag. O no, what now!
I thought a minute and remembered taking it off, but not putting it back on. I hightailed it back to the spot, whichwas about 1/2 hour away and there was my bag laying on the ground about 10' from the trail. The only thing that saved me was the trail was real muddy and nobody was using it. I had taken a back way in. I call that my lucky day. Here's a list of the larger stuff I fit in the Slingshotbag - Bruce Pentax *istDL camera plus

Here's my collection:
Autofocus lenses: Pentax DA 18-55mm kit lens Pentax FA-J 70-300 Pentax FA-50 1.4 Tamron 28-300 3.5-6.3 Macro (185D) Sigma UC Zoom 70-210 Quantaray 2X AF Teleconverter Manual Focus lenses: Pentax A-50 f2 Sears 135 f2.8 (m) - best $.99 lens I ever bought Gemini 28mm 2.8 (m) Various filters, adapters and other crap. I pretty much only use the top 3 Pentax lenses. I got the Tamron to take on vacation then it goes back. I over paid for it, but I really wanted to avoid the lens swapping while on vacation. The Sigma needs to go too, because I replaced it with the 70-300, but I'm lazy...so in my bag it sits. The manual lenses are fun to play with, and I do use them quite a bit when I'm screwing around, but I rarely take them anywhere when I'm with other people because they don't understand why I'm wasting so much time screwing around with the camera. It's just easier to take the AF lens when others are around. |
