-Sigma 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC

-or Pentax DA 50-200 F4-F5.6 ED

Cant decide between the two and havent seen too many reviews. Ive tried both of them in store and cant really tell any discernable difference. Im in Canada and each lense can be found for less than $199 CDN.

Anyone have any experience with either of these? Ive read that each of them can be a little "soft". Im not looking to spend out of this price range and would like to buy new so this is the 2 lenses Ive narrowed it down to.

Definitely Pentax DA 50-200. No question about it. Unless you have a Sigma EX lens, generally speaking Pentax lens are always better optically.

Go for the Pentax, unless you can get the Sigma 70-300mm - cracking lens!

Funny... I got a better feeling with the Sigma. I know all lenses will have their short comings at this price level though.

It also suprises me that the Sigma is marginally more expensive at most camera shops.

I second what Foxbat121 just said.I happen to have the Pentax DA 50-200 have used with great results. Great lense for the money.

I can fully endorse the recommendation to go for the Pentax DA 50-200mm; I've had mine since February & it's great - light, compact & takes superb pictures.

I have been very happy with my 50-200 Pentax lens. I picked up the two kit lens K100d package based on the very favorable remarks concerning that lens on this forum and I have not been disappointed. However, I have no experience with that Sigma lens to compare the two.

I got the 50-200mm with the camera and loved it, but wanted more reach. Tried a cheap manual focus 70-300mm and then got a good deal on the Sigma 70-300mm on ebay. This has now been on my camera for a week and I am starting to get some better results.
