Hi, I am interested in shutter life of the K100D. I hope it does not have such a small limit like "N" D50 (25000 actuations or so). Thanks for your answers!

I want to be a Pentaxian :}

Hi Verloc,

I don't think there's any way to predict avg shutter life in such a newly introduced model, except to look at real user experience from older models that probably use the same mechanism. If one can safely assume the shutter is the same as the DS, I can provide some insight. I currently have 26,000+ shutter actuations, and have heard of other owners who have significantly more. I don't recall any reports of shutter failures in any of the Pentax DSLR models in the 18+ months that I've been following various Pentax DSLR fora, and some D users have reported over 100,000 actuations without problems.

I have experienced shutter failure in a Pentax camera.

My KX's shutter failed after twenty years of ownership.

I tend to think this question is really not that relevant nowadays.
A dslr dies likely because of electronic problem (e..g. contact or the lack thereof) rather than anything mechanical which might be an issue during the film days.
Like my vehicle. If the engine light comes on you are stuck. In the old days I would never have been stranded on the road with a stalled vehicle.

Yeah, flimsy things aren't they, my K1000 only went 22 years before it's shutter failed.
