It is a bombshell that the batt (K10D) is not that proprietory at all

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=20046631

According to this fellow, it takes Sony prop battery ( LI-50 battery).

Also this fellow said it is compatible with Ricoh & Pana as well

If Pentax has that thinking, why not they also use the most popular batt Canon 511? If that is so, a lot of Canon users may have less worries about accessories.

Nonetheless I would say hurrah for Pentax. It is the next best thing after AAs of course. But I can see the need to have more powerful batt.

Interesting information Daniel, we will have to check this out. If I had a source for batteries that were under $50 Cdn the K10D would start looking really good to me.

Ira,

My apology for the typo of the subject matter.
If the batt is common for Sony, Rocoh & Pana, there will be 3rd party batt. I got my oem Canon 511 batt at around $20. Once there is a lucrative market, there will be supplier bringing down the cost.
Also it does not pay for Pentax to use unique batt which is more costly to make not to mention the lack of popularity.
