These were taken Sep 17 and the weather and wind could not have been better. Some of the kites were flown in worldwide for this competition. Some are several floors high and hundred yds long. Gigantic ones. The patience of shooting a week of garbage finally paid off.

It was fun.

I believe you! And yes, your patience paid off, and as you had fun the vivid colurs and the shapes of the kites makes me feel good to!

Nice shots Daniel. That looks like a perfect event to bring in the shutterbug crowd.

Wow, those look more like hot air balloons than kites! Really blow those diamond shaped ones I had when I was younger out of the air.¬* Nice pictures!

¬*I knew exactly what I needed to do. A lot of C & N shutterbugs got their 12" zoom trying to impress their gf or kids or poor Pentaxians.¬* I would say they all have the wrong gears. I made sure¬* I had my fisheye on and I took pict right¬* in the middle of field just when all the huge kites were up and above me. I also made sure¬* that I had people in the pict as well just to show the enormity of the kites.
These large kites can only stay up top half an hour because of their weight.

Very nice shots, Daniel! I don't believe I have ever seen kites that large before! Looks like the children had almost as good of a time as you did!:G

If I am correct, the one on the ground getting ready to go was just a tail piece.
Those long tail (auxillary kite) have to be up in the air prior to the main one. They need to be up separately. And they are gigantic. It is unreal.
