I currently have the 18-125mm Sigma and an old M 50mm 1.7
Basically I want something wider than the 50, but with similar results.
I know theres the Pentax 28mm 2.8 which is supposed to be quite good (right?)
Are there any other lenses I should be looking out for?

I have got FA28/2.8 and FA35/2 and both are good lenses. I like the FOV of 28/2.8 but I think 35/2 is sharper (not saying 28 is not sharp) and faster but it is also closer to 50mm that you have got. So it really depends which focal length you prefer.

If your budget allows it, have a look at FA20/2.8 or the limited lenses and the 21mm pancake.

cheers,
Kenny

Sigma 12-24 EX DG if you have a film camera also, otherwise the Sigma 10-22 DC i think it is.

Sigma also has the 24mm and the 28mmF1.8 DG Macro. I have the 24mm and I really like the sharpness. BUT - it is a huge lens, big and heavy. I have no Idea how they would compare to a Pentax lens, since I don't have any of their prime lenses in that range.

There is a 28mm one on EBay right now:

I have the SMC M 24mm 2.8 and it is a small, light lens. It's reasonably sharp, the couple of reviews I've read seem to indicate it is similar to the 28mm 2.8 in that respect. When I first bought it for a film camera, I thought it was a bit too fish-eye like for my tastes, but that doesn't apply as much with the smaller sensor. I use it most of the time for wide-angle pictures, instead of the kit lens.

Thanks for the info!
I wish I could afford the Sigma ones :-)

Does anyone know anything about the Vivitar 28mm 2.8 A?

Dont forget you are using it on an APS sized sensor. Using a 28mm lens will not be very wide.

You want something wider than your current 18mm lens on the 18-125

Sorry, I should have given more info.
I'm not after a superwide angle lense just yet
I'm looking for something thats of a similar standard as the 50mm 1.7 but a bit wider.

Not sure why I even mentioned my Sigma lense
