FWIW, my shot was taken with my 28-70 f/2.8 zoom, but I am going to try my 85 f/1.4 this weekend to see if I can figure this out a bit more for indoor sports, with bad lighting.

This one was taken with my 80-200 f/2.8 @ 115mm, f/2.8, 1/250 sec, ISO 1600. I set the WB for florescent light, then applied photo filter 80 cooling filter in CS2 to bring back the color to where I wanted it.

Since the lens is fairly heavy, I used a mono-pod to help steady the shot, since I don't have SR and this lens if hard to hand hold.

I, too, have been struggling with the problem of lighting in school gyms.

Besides everything else, this is a very good picture!

Thank you. Occasionally, I get lucky. I've probably taken 800 shots this month and maybe get one that I like in each game. School gyms are definitely a challenge. Fortunately, these are 5th - 8th grade girls, and they're easy to please!

Nice. I wish I could capture the moment like that. I'm either too early or too late.

In the first photo, it looks like there are 2 games going on at once??

Yes, two games at once...most tournaments end up that way unless a district has several schools and at least four gyms.
