You can peel it off just like a scotch tape. BTW the sensor filter is still covered throughout this operation and there is nothing really challenging or potentially damaging at all.

Great - will someone please try this and report their findings, preferably with pics as to where they located the tape.

Maybe attach it to the back of the mirror?

You are right. There is not much space to put even a small piece of tape in that well except maybe a piece of 3x10mm. For such small piece of tape there is not enough adhesion. Back of the mirror is out of the question as it may add weight to this fast moving part. Looks like it is a dead idea.
