I have thought about starting this thread for a week or two. Crashman posted his list of lenses and his thoughts on each one and I thought how handy it would be if everyone posted what lenses they had been most successful with. There are a number that are frequently discussed, but there are probably many people who have great lenses that are not often mentioned on the board.

I am afraid that my own favorites are largely a product of the lenses that have been discussed here. My all time favorite is my F50mm 1.7 andthat is closely followed by my Kiron 105mm 2.8 macro lens. Probably the biggest surprise is that I really like the very inexpensive Sigma 28-80mm 1:2 macro. I have taken some macro shots with this lens that I was very pleased with. For the very low price this lens goes for on ebay, I would recommend it to anyone who is not sure if they want to play with macrophotography or not.

My biggest disappointment thus far has been the Tamron 70-300 LD. This is an older version with 1:3.8 macro but it is just too soft at 300mm.

Ok, please post your favorite lenses, especially any sleepers that are not commonly mentioned.

Thanks,

Tim

I'm pleased with an old K 45-125 f?4 zoom. I'm not partial to zooms, but on the *st D it's a useful range, I've gotten some great shots when travelling.

The A 50 1.4 is my standard portriat lens on the D these days, it's unbeatable!

1. FA 50mm f1.4 -- excellent, love it!
2. DA 16-45mm f4 -- very good lense.
3. DA 50-200mm f4-5.6 -- good lense however I'm not excited about it. Probably going to sell it and get used FA 80-320mm. And maybe (if price won't bite) DA* 60-250mm f4 later.

My favorite lens is a tie between A*300 f4 and Phoenix FA 100mm f3.5 macro. The A*300 is a better lens but I'm still getting used to it. The Phoenix has great optics but its (for me desirable) light weight comes with a price - it isn't as well made. I don't care, its an inexpensive macro lens and extremely sharp, worth more than its cost.

I use the DA 50-200 the most, but it isn't my favorite. I have a number of other lenses that I use often, and a couple that are in a camera bag I ignore.

FA 50-1.4-- love it--Dont do much portrait Work though
FA28-105-3.2-4.5- Use this lense the most--LOVE It!!
DA-18-55 kit lense- Very rarely use this- If it was worth anything I Might sell it
Sigma-70-300APO DG Macro 4.5-5.6-

I also have several M -lenses. I dont use these much, as My eyes are Not the best For MF.
M50-1.4
M28-3.5
M200-4.0

I Am torn at this Point weather to save for the DA-50-200 2.8 thats coming or the K10D.
Most likely the K10D will win out as I Really want SR.

You say the DA 50-200 2.8 that's coming. So, you don't mean the 50-200 that is available now? It's a 4 - 5.6.

I am ready to purchase that one as a second lens and am wondering if maybe I should wait. Is that why there's a rebate on the other one? Or, is it probably so far out of my price range I wouldn't buy it anyway?

You cannot expect too much of a consumer zoom. I believe (I do not have one) it is a decent lens like my FA j 75-300 Pentax . If you need to use its extreme end at 300mm make sure it is at or above F8 and with ideal lighting situation. Otherwise it is soft and in some bad case, not useable at all. It is a cheap solution for 300mm. Provided that you use it selectively, it is ok at least to me
My FA J 75-300 at its best at 300mm

Try that with your Tamron before you pass judgment.

I have suspicion that he was talking about DA* 50-135mm f2.8
Also DA* 60-250mm f4 is coming.

My favorite lens areZenitar 16mm 2.8, FA28mm 2.8, FA50mm 1.4, FA100mm 2.8 Macro, FA135mm 2.8 & A* 300mm F/4. As each one is for that focal length, I would say they are all my favorite. They are all like legendary in their respective focal length.

My top 3 most used lenses-

FA 35/2 - great pics, nice weight and a 'normal' focal length

FA 100/2.8 macro - a bit heavy but this pics are incredibly sharp, a great portrait and macro lens

Kit lens - preferred zoom over the FA28-105 as I need a wider angle at the low end, I find the kit lens sharper too although haven't done a scientific test
