I want to get a Cable release switch for my K100D. However, the pentax one doesn't seem to be available anywhere. No one seems to have them in stock, at least not the local camera shops or the online retailers that I trust. No one can even seem to tell me when they will be getting more.

I don't suppose any of you wonderful pentaxians no of any other switch that may work with the K100D, or know where I might find instructions to build my own?

Thank you :-)

It's a mini phone plug, when it shorts the shutter fires. If you want the locking feature, you need the pentax one, but it should be easy to rig one up for yourself if you just want to fire the shutter.

The one Tom mentioned on eBay looks good.

There's a few alternatives though.

Firstly I believe the Canon release for the 350D will work fine with Pentax (Just double check this though before you buy) This might be easier to find in your local shop.

Secondly, you can make your own cable for a lot less than you can buy one.
Check out this thread on how to do that

nadnerb is correct; The Canon 350D cable release has the same pinout as the Pentax cable release. I use it with my *ist DL with full compatibility.

Same here: use Canon Remote Switch RS60 on my K100D without problems.

Well if you want the fun of making your own, your in luck Here is a link to my poorly done demonstration... one thing i must emphasize is that you use a stereo plug and adapter(or just a submini plug). Really cheap headphones dont seem to work either, I could not get consistant contact with a $1 pair I bought... anyways if you have any more questions send me a private message because i dont check these forums often.

the button can slide forward as well to be for the shutter to be held open indefinitely in bulb mode.

The one I supplied the link to above has half push focus and will lock the shutter open for any length of time. I use it mostly on my Gun Stock Mount.
