At very short notice (say 10 minutes), I was asked by my daughter for using my camera. She is a P& S person and I was really at a loss as to what to do. So I gave her my K100D and FA50mm1.4. I figure it out that since she will likely use it for portrrait, so it went. This is her friend pix (only resizing, no cropping and no nothing). I had no clue that it was done at F2.8.

How come it does not zoom? You zoom with your feet

How come it is so heavy compared to mine at home? This is an old fashion camera

How come the LCD not working? Sorry you have to use the small viewfinder

I gave up arguing with an Ivy League Engineering MSc

Lovely picture!

The Pentax cameras are quite capable of acting like a point and shoot. My hubby, who has never owned a camera, took over the DS while we were in Yosemite. He had similar luck, taking a number of outstanding pictures. I'd hate to think what our budget would look like if he really got the bug!

daniel,

thanks for this post especially the dialogue between you and your daughter. in a few words you've given us a picture that is as effective (can i say this in a crowd of photographers?) as a photograph. maybe i think so because i have a grown college educated daughter also? any how you made me smile and i'll remember "you zoom with your feet" for a long time.

all the best, eric
