Yes, this is both and interesting and useful exercise, especially for those who want to grow in their craft/hobby/profession/obsession.

I'm taking a correspondence course from the New York Institutute of Photography, and I'm on the topic of filters. This and other web forums are invaluable for supplemental material and user comments on these kinds of topics.

So far on the topic of Polarizers, it looks like the "safer" route is Circular. Since the K100D occasionally hunts for focus (in low contrast)even WITHOUT a filter, I wouldn't want anything to get in its way, despite the fact the the Linear Polarizer works for some people. The difference in cost is not that much to scrimp on this issue.

On the other hand, a polarizer tends to INCREASE the contrast, which may even help the autofocus function. Any thoughts on this?
