FA50/1.4 is a little bit soft wide open. It's best at F2.0 and up. The DOF is also paper thin at F1.4. I found very little use of F1.4 because of DOF.

That being said, it is still a very good and sharp lens all around.

FA50mm/1.4, ISO800, 1/15sec, F/2.8, Hand Held (no SR on my DL)

I saw that shot on dpreview!!

BTW, great quality for a lens wide opened at F/1.4!! :shock:Was it set at infinity?

EDIT: Sorry, saw that it was set to F/2.8! (Still, not bad at all)

I tested the K100D and I found that at F=200mm and SR on I had 5.5 stops advantage over handheld - 1/6 second.

I have read through the entire article, andI agree that itwas a great article.

I am alsonow drooling over allthose qualitative Pentaxlenses listed outbelow. I really desire those lenses. Unfortunately, availability might be almost impossible...

yep, those limiteds are definitly something to drool at :?

lol

However, if the FA 50mm is as sharp as my A version, then you don't have to get much closer to get similar results imo. Especially if you consider you saved about 500$...

Here is the F 50mm f/1.7 at 1.7 taken just now with my DS in jpg using AF (since I didn't care where it focused), with no processing other than sizing and I find it pretty sharp.

That is a greatly taken shot. (Quite sharp too)

I also hope that the Pentax 50mm f/1.4 SMC P-FA will be available here...(I believe Iwill be having a hard time searching for those older Pentax lenses)

Regards.
