I should know this, but I don't. I just purchased a used M50 macro from Ebay and it has an extra set of numbers near the filter end of the lens. They are numbered 25 - 2. The 25 seems to corrospond to 5 ft on the focus and the 2 to .77 ft, which is the minimum focus distance. What do these numbers actually mean in the real world. I don't believe this macro lens will do 1:1 without extension tubes - Bruce

not positive but if the last number is 1:2 or 2 it seems that all it will do is a 1:2 ratio. 1/2 life size. not familar with the lens but you might try googleing it.

edit; how about a pic of the lens fully extended to macro with the markings it displays

oh, 1;2 is not bad at all.. 1:1 on a dragonfly at !:! only gets it's head and wing supports... 1:2 is a lot better for that kind of shot..

Yes, this is the same lens. I believe Roy is correct, that it is 1/2 lifesize. I just didn't know what the number 2 means. Notice it pretty well lines up with the .77 ft mark on the focus distance, which is the minimum. There must be some reason forthe numbers on this end of thelens. Roy may be correct, they just left out the 1:, that would mean the numbers start at 1:25. I guess that would be 1/25 lifesize. Am I right?- Bruce

thanks for posting a pic. this is definately thr 1:2, half life size, version. it only goes to f4. nothing wrong with that. it's a super sharp lens. i had the 100mm vesion and loved it.. i think the f2.8 was the 1:1 version.. enjoy it and try shots at f11+. you'll get remarkable results. good thing about this lens is it will not obstruct the onboard flash.
