I picked up a 100-300mm f/4.5lens from Ritz camera today, new, on clearance for 60 dollars. I have looked around online and can't seem to find any of these for sale. Is there a problem with the 100-300mm f/4.5 lenses? Why can't I find them for sale? I see 70-210, 18-300, 18-200, 80-200, but no 100-300. Any ideas?

I got mine from KEH at HEH.com (FA 100-300). As I recall, they had a few in EX+ condition. Now, based on recommendations read om this forum, I chose to get the silver version of the lens as opposed to the black version. I am very happy with the results I have go so far.

One of the reasons you cant seem to find the lens is perhaps because the lens is no longer manufactured.

How's the sharpness (not sure if that's the right word) at 300mm? I would try it myself, but mine's a christmas gift (along with the 50mm prime) and the wifey won't let me have themuntil then. :'(

LOL,
Nick

Check out this album at: http://picasaweb.google.com/feroz.ghouse/Zoo10052006

Most of these pictures were taken with the 100-300 lens (Chek the EXIF. Pay particular attention to the eye of the elephant.

I paid just over 50 bucks for this lens and for that kind of money, the pictures are plenty sharp.

I have the newer cheaper f4.7-5.8 model. Very lightweight and better on the smaller DSLR format than on film. See http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=80

Here is a hand held 300mm shot with that lens (I believe it is comparable to the f4.5 lens):

I think what he meant was the 4.7 was comparable to the 4.5 not the star lens.
