I now have the DS with the Chinese focus screen and it is just like using my old MESuper but with instant feedback.
A bit easier to change on the *isDS without the spacer that's fitted to the *isDL.

There has been a good thread on Dpreview about focusing manually. It seems that many people do not have the diopter (slider) set correctly on there viewfinder. The favored way to do it seems to be to not set it so the lens looks sharp, but set it so the etched focus lines in the viewfinder are sharp. You would do this with the actual lens not in focus. In fact, you can do it with no lensinstalled. Here is a link to the postbelow- Bruce

This was covered in an earlier thread, a seller in China under the ebay name ischi makes manual focus screens for the *istD* Pentax cameras by cutting down screens from older MF film cameras. I have owned two: one had a huge split image, great for macro work, the other was based on the Minolta X700 screen and has a very nice centre split and microprism collar. They cost less than $30 delivered and have worked very well in my DL (tricky to change screen) and the DS (very simple to change screens).

I find a Chinese seller (not ischi) selling a screen that is said to fit D and DL. Are the DS and DL screens the same?

D, DS and DL all use the same screen. I switched my screen from the DL to the DS with no problem.

I already got:
Sigma EF-500 DG Super w/ the Sto-fen omni bounce
50mm f/1.4

I know I'm getting the lightsphere 2 from my sister and maybe a new camera bag.
