I'm dreaming about a FA* 24 f2.0 or a 31 mm Limited, but I can't justify spending that sum as I'm trying to save up for a K10D. And I love my wife and don't want to provoke a divorce. :-)But I do need a fast short lens for indoors.

I am totally lost when it comes to other lens brands. Vivitar series 1 is apparently top notch. What about this one: Vivitar Auto Wide-Angle 24mm 1:2? Not "MC" marked. Is it crap or a gem? There is one offered in a Swedish site.

Yes, that was what I thought of. I don't know if Vivitar use that labelling, but Chinon and some others do.

I've been doing a little research. I haven't found the lens in question anywhere on the net but it might be a relabelled Kiron from the seventies.

Oh, lol, I guess I could've thought of that if I really put my mind to it. Thanks!

Hey Kjell,

I joined the Kiron mail list after getting my 105mm macro. I mainly lurk, but that lens has been discussed as a being made by both Kiron and Komineand those that have it (both flavors) post favorably. It is supposed to be equal in quality and much rarer than theVivitar (Kiron)28mm f2. I would definately ask about the aperture though, as stuck apertures seem to be a very common problem with the older Kirons. I don't have any personal experience, but I hope that helps.

Thanks for the information, Tim. That means it would be worth a few bucks to give it a try. I'll be back when the auction has ended (Dec 26).

Check out this link for more info on Vivitar lenses. The gooda are not necessarily rebadged units but some are their own designs, manufactured by people like Kiron under contract.

Like all lens brands their are differen tlevles of quality within their range, but good ones are very good.
