I ordered mine from Adorama a little under a month ago, the site said that it was out of stock but it was in my hands four days later! I had read on here that it was showing in stock earlier in the day, but it wasn't saying that when I ordered. From my experience, at least, it wasn't nearly as hard to get as I had feared.

I just put some of the early photos I took with it online last night... here's one of my son looking very serious - the other pictures I took at the same time have big smiles in them but I kind of like this one, too. (That's an old Bushnell telescope tripod he's playing with.)

I wonder from where these FA50/1.4 keep coming? My newly purchased one (B&H) seems to be manufactured in 2003 (at least the manual is ptinted then and all the lenses and info in it comes from 2003...) Are they searching for some "forgotten" batches gathering dust in some warehouse or container?

Best and happy and lucky searching for it, JR

Yeah, I wish I knew where they were. Guess I missed this 'found batch' at B&H. Didn't get my order in, and now they are outa stock again. Bummer.

My local shop has a used SMC-F 50mm F/1.7 for $125. Is it worth it? The only Pentax lens they have in stock. New or used.

Just put your order in now... BH or Adorama will ship when they get more stock. That way you don't have to worry about constantly checking if it's in stock then getting your order in quick. It looks like they both get stock at the same time so go with whoever's cheaper (it was Adorama when I ordered it.)

Cambridge World appears to have them in stock. See:

http://cambridgeworld.com

Buyer beware - Cambridge World has gotten some very bad reviews!!!!

I was able to order the 50mm f/1.4 from Beach Camera last weekend. It should be here in a few hours.

Well, I decided to settle with a SMC-F 50mm F/1.7. Nice little lens.

Now I am trying to decide on the next lens.
Either the Pentax SMCP-D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro
Or Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro

Any suggestions?

Beach Camera has them back in stock. I orderedmineover the weekendonline, had it in my hands yesterday. At $199 less $50 MIR it is a great deal!

I haven't seen the 50mm SMCP-FA 1.7 lens available new. For most needs it is probably just as good as the 1.4, maybe even a bit better.

Great lens, I really love mine. I have read reviews that state the 1.7 is sharper, at least wide open, than the 1.4. You won't have any complaints with the 1.7.
