Hello, and happy holidays fellow pentax owners. Was wondering if any of you own thie lens, or have used it. What's the difference between the older(LD) one and the newer(XR) model?

Also if you have some photo examples of the older lens, please post them..

thanks.

I don't have the LD version, which is the one you mean I think, but I have the XR version for film cameras. Not the Di APS-sized one.

all of the shots in this series are with the Tamron 28-200mm XR

I'm very pleased with it, nice allround performer.

Only downsides:

- barrel distortion as with all superzooms
- sometimes I had the impression the sky was a bit on the grey side where it should be blue. This could be the cheap UV filter I used though...

this is the one I have: http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/a03_lg.asp
Got it for about 150$ from ebay after import taxes. If you're in the US you should be able to get it for 100$

Hi,

I have the Sigma 28-200mm. I had one for my Canon also. It is a great walk around lens. The only pictures that I have with the Sigma are from my Canon. But I will have more with my Pentax Soon....:GThis is one taken at last years Continental Ski Jumps. And It was a Brisk -49 degrees.

If you get the Tamron or the Sigma get the one that takes a 62mm filter. The older models use a 72mm filter.

Yes, sorry. I was talking about the 28-200 LD model. I found one really cheap, and was thinking about picking it up. But was wondering if it would be worth it, or just stick to my plan and go for the 50-200mm pentax.

What's the difference beteween the LD and the XR?:?

The size and build quality I believe...
The XR (eXtra Refractive) is basicly an update of the LD (Low Dispersion) I think

To be honest I would go with the 50-200mm Pentax kit lens. Makes a nice walkabout, very light and sharp.
