I posted a couple of weeks ago about a rumor floating around that the K10D won the DSLR shootout which will be in February's issue.

It seems as the reality is they came in 3rd, behind (guess who) Big Ad contributor 1, and Big Ad contributor 2. Rather than recap, here is the thread from DPReview

Didn't expect anything different. If Pentax would have won, there would have been no more free Photo Safaris for writers and journalists paid for by Caniko.

I love those crazy guys who write reviews, unbiased and full of usefull information.

What's Hot

• Weather-tough design

What's Not
• Weather sealing make for slower access to battery and card

I don't have to be cynical they already do a great job

Notice one thing:
At the end of the year they crowned Sony a100 as camera of the year. Now -- a few weeks later--we have Sony a100 as the worst between 10Mpix DSLRs!

Perfect display of their credibility.

I would have been amazed if the K10 had come out on top - we Pentaxians never get any respect. I think that's what keeps us so down-to-earth. We know a good thing when we see it and don't need anyone else to tell us how great it is. We don't need to be admired for our fancy camera gear, we just have a need to take good pictures, which we do quite regularly (and post them here).

I'm not really unhappy about Pentax cameras being under-appreciated in the press - if they were too popular I'd never be able to afford lenses!

I'm not that suprise with the verdict. Everybody has an agenda. Hopefully readers will be smart enough to take things with a grain of salt and do their own homework.

I came across this one quote that I whole heartedly believe in. It goes something like this...

"Amateurs argue with their camera bodies.

Professionals argue with their lenses.

Experts argue with their pictures."

Keep taking awesome picture and posting them my fellow Pentaxians.

Harriet - I think you hit the nail on the head. The more popular Pentax becomes, the harder it gets to find lenses, especially good ones. Ask anybody trying tofind an FA50 right now, before the rebate ends. The backward compatability on lenses is enough of a reason to consider Pentax, although this could change fast with popularity.

Think if Pentax was as popular as Canon all of a sudden, what whould happen to the prices of the lenses that were out there. Of course it could be good news for those having a few extra ones laying around.

Butwho knows once Hoya gets involved what's going to happen. They have done pretty well promoting there filters. My thought is, maybe you'd better buy any old glass you think you need now. Luckily, my LBA has subsided for now (knock on wood)- Bruce

Mark,

I think the majority of the fault goes to you . You should not have raised it up so soon. We should have just stuck with Seasons greeting and Pentax would have been #1

It seems, if this is true, that according to a pre-release copy of the Feb issue, the K10D wins the shootout. Don't know how true this is, but found it interesting nonetheless.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

They took out all the printed copy and issued new one crowning whoever instead of Pentax. All because of Mark and this forum
