Took pics at my daughter's BB tourney today--really bad light. The 50mm f/1.4 worked pretty well, though.

The gym was split into 3 courts, and the dividers made the lighting even worse that a typical gym

Last one--it was a fun day. The team took third place.

You nailed that 3rd shot! Well done.
I'm really impressed with the versatility of the 50mm lens. Sports photography, who would have thought. What next?

Very nice! Looks like you are going to end up with lots of wonderful pictures and memories of your daughter. When are you going to become the official team photographer and start selling them?

My 7 year old son started basketball this year (well, actually just a "skills camp" at his age...). I had horrid results withthe kit lens, and your posts encouraged me to pick up a 50mm prime (I got an f2 though) for shooting in the gym, and wow, whata difference! I actually got a few usable shots! So I owe you a huge thank you.

For what it's worth, I got even better results when I set a manual white balance. Lucky for me, the floor/walls were white (never seen a white backetball floor before) but that helped to eliminate that yellow look to everything. I'll post a sample when I get home.

Anyway, thanks for this!
