Thought it was time to have a go at shooting in RAW.

Overcastevening so selected cloudy white balance and set @ 800 ISO.

Kit lens @ 28mm.

Slightly cropped, and sharpened with Faststone.

Hmm. I think if you tried the same thing with a tripod, you'd get a much better result.
I'd use a smaller aperture too...

Exactly my thoughts TDN.

Thanks for commenting.

Also I will cut back on ISO, bit interesting as a trial run.

I was wondering why you used ISO 800 on a subject that was not moving instead of ISO 200 and a tripod?

I often use continuous shooting when there is no tripod available. Not enough light? ISO800 is great on the DL2... can even go for ISO1600!

Depending on subject i'd experiment with in-camera sharpening... less in-camera sharpening produces a "smoother" look and reduces ISO-noise and color-noise to some degree.

So in low-light I had nice results with sharpening-1, contrast-1 and linear color setting. Go for cont. shooting and fire 2-3 times to get at least one "steady" shot if no SR is available.

High ISO is good to remove movement blur (even a slight wind on 1/15 can result in blur!).

#2 in "Frozen Beauties" is taken at bad light... maybe you want to have a look? --> http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...amp;forum_id=7
