Stalking Wildlife - Mule Deer - Sun & Shadows

2nd test for my new Pentax K10D W/Tamron 24 - 135 Lens.

Equipment: Scent blocker Cameo, Doe in season spray, Deer grunt call.

I had found where deer were going thru the woods to get to a farmers field to eat. I guess this would be called stalking backwards because I hid in a bush and waited for them rather than finding them and then stalking in closer. I figured this would be a good test because the sun was going down so I would have some sunlight and also shadows.

The Deer trail with a deer going towards the field and a close up of one of the bucks that came by the bush I had crawled into.

A pretty nice buck

A pretty lady

A very curious young buck

Another pretty nice buck

I am thinking this afternoon I will un-pack the Sigma 50 - 500 and start reading about it. It is next for testing.

Hi royce10, thank you for looking and commenting.

I guess they probably got with in 25 yards of the bush I was in. I was pretty lucky the wind was right in my face. Of course when they heard the shutter they took a closer look then left at a fast walk.

Nice shots, although you may be able to squeeze a bit more detail out of the shadows in the deer's coat.

Hi Darren, thanks for looking and commenting. Could you please give me an idea of how to squeeze more detail out of the shadows in the deer's coat.

Very nice! How long did you have to wait in the bush before they came by?

Just adjusted the shadows/highlights in CS2. May have blown the highlights a bit, but its late and time for bed.
