Pentax has a "buy more - get more" program going in the US. Buy a K100/110 get $50 rebate. Buy an SMC P-DA 50-200mm zoom get $50. Buy both the lens and camera "simultaneously", get $150. What does simultaneously mean?

I called Pentax customer service to ask. I told them my preferred vendors have the K100D but not the lens. If I buy the camera from one vendor and the lens from another vendor, do I get the combined rebate? They said they think so, but I should call their third party rebate administrator. I called them, and they said no, you have to buy both itmes on the same receipt from the same vendorto get the $150.

The 50-200mm lens is not widely available from vendors like buydig, beach, and abes of main. Has anyone else looked into this. Theonly vendor I foundthat has the lensand the camerais selling thecamera at about $100 higher than Beach. And that vendor has a rating of 2.8 on a scale of 10. Kind of defeats the purpose of the rebate. I asked Pentax customer service about availability of the lens and they did admit that it had been sold outaccross the US. They are waiting for US vendors to be resupplied from Japan, but had no idea of when.Beach, Buydig, and Abeshave been out since before the rebate program started. BAD PENTAX MARKETING!!

Thanks, B and H is about $30 more for the camera plus aboutmore for shipping than Beach, thus wiping out the combined benefit of the $150 rebate. I would be just as well of buying the camera from beach and the lens elsewhere (free shipping from both) and settling for the two inividual $50 rebates. Thanks for the tip however.

I got my 50-200 from Amazon for around $226 (before rebate). And I know they have K100d's too.

Good luck!

You should be able to see/read the rebate slip on Beach's site. That's where I bought my K100D, and got my rebate slip from. I was under the impression that to get the bonus rebate, both purchases had to be on the same receipt, but don't trust me, read it for yourself. I spent a long time looking for this camera, and read a lot about it, so it is possible that my impression of both on same receipt is from some other source.

Yes, you are correct, to get the combined rebate for both the lens and camera ($150) you have to purchase on the same receipt from the same vendor. It appears that you could go with two individual rebates of $50, one for the camera, and one for the lens. I thought I saw something about one rebate per household, so I'm not even sure of that. I am now leaning toward avoiding the hassel and go with a Nikon D50 and two Tamron zooms.

My two cents: Buy the camera from Beach w/the $50 rebate and get the Tamron 70-300mm from Cameta Camera on ebay for $149. I have it and Love it. You can see it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Tamron-70-300mm-...QQcmdZViewItem

Or you can get the Tamron 28-200mm from Beach for $129. It's this one:

Good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was just about to give up on the Pentax and made one last check on Beach. They have the smc 50-200mm zoom today! Order placed, K100D with 18-55mm kit lens, and the 50-200; simultaneous purchase, $150 rebate. As a result I'll probably be selling my Dimage A200 and Promaster Flash on e-bay.
