That's certainly odd-looking to me (I still don't know much about birds)- is that his feathers ruffled up on his neck? Or is that normal?

Perhaps it was very windy and it's feathers are ruffled back. Nice shot Tom. Sharp as always.

Great shot from the other end of the hard to get - black feathers. I always find these as hard to get as white feathers! LOL

There was a lot of wind and the feathers are blowing up on the neck! Black birds as well as white birds are always hard to meter.
