Thanks everyone for the comments. I may have set the bar too high for my first pictures!

Jelpee,

Both pictures were shot without flash. The first shot was lit with a halogen desk lamp to the front left of the cat (picture right), hence the darker areas on the left side of the shot. The second shot was lit with overhead pot lights.

I enjoy shooting low-light and ambient light shots, soa camerawith shake reduction was an easy choice for me. Besides, my cats always blink when I shoot with the flash! Now to learn some Photoshop techniques. I'd like to see how the first pic would look in b/w, with the eyes still in colour.

Welcome Chris. Very nice portraits. I know what you mean about shake reduction and low light. I haven't got it (DS) and I miss it!

Seven cats in this family.

Love both shots... I, too, am a cat lover, but family has allergies, so no cat pics from me. Really like the sneakiness in number two, but the eyes in number one are amazing.

I don't usually do this, but since you asked, here's what it looks like with the eyes selectively colored. Hope you don't mind.

Nice to know there are other cat people on this forum... Here is my Belle. She just made the move from Jackson, Ohio to Flagstaff, Arizona with me. She loves driving around in the car..

Nice shot's, but your Jungle cat seems to be a bit camera shy :-), welcome - Ronny

inneyeseakay- thanks for the PS of the pic. With a little coaching from a co-worker I was able to achieve a similar result, but the border and the title were above and beyond! It was helpful for me to be able to compare my edited photo to yours, and see how I did.

mountainmandave- great shot of belle. The lighting is fantastic! Gives me something to shoot for (pun not intended)

I can think of one word. ATTITUDE!!! Major attitude. Thelook designed to make you look in their eyes, where they stare you down and make you squirm. (at least in their minds. :-)).

Nice capture all. Welcome to the forum Chris.
