I didn't like any of the pictures I took today - think I was in the wrong frame of mind or something. I went to get a can of coffee for the office, and decided to take some food pictures for the monthly challenge. All of them turned out badly, including the ones I took at the botanical gardens (my favorite place to visit for lunch).

I'd love some suggestions.

Isn't this an odd place to have a display of fresh limes? The picture just doesn't quite work for me - would it be better to crop closer to them?

Does anyone have any idea what these are? They looked interesting, but I wasn't quite willing to experiment with them - are they fruit or vegetable?

Is it that this one has a crooked top line and that's why it doesn't work? I tried to crop out the broccoli but it didn't help. I think I should be giving up about now, but I'll ask your advice about one more.

Last one - another display that I found improbable. My husband took one look at this picture and said, "You took that and didn't even buy one for me???"

And what are those Symphony's to in the middle of all that milktoast generics?

And the one up there all by itself... burried.

The Cherimoya: I looked it up because it looks like a fruit we ate in Thailand called a Custard Apple ("Noi Na" in Thai). This is in the same family. It has a soft pulp with lots of black seeds about the size of cherry pits, but smooth. It has a wonderful flavor, but the seeds make it a bit of a pain to eat! Sorry I don't have any pix, at least not digitized.

I have no idea, but for $7 a pound they had better be delicious! :O

Harriet,

Where I grew up, these fruit were called Custard Apples. Some called them Bull's Heart. The ones in the picture are IMHO not ready to eat. They ahould change color to a beige (kinda) when they ripen. They are very tasy and flavorful....seeds though (black and like watermelon seeds - a bit larger though).

Roy - I hope you notice that not one of the beers on the shelfis American!

Thanks, everyone, for the information about the strange (to me) fruit - I hadn't paid any attention to the price until after I looked a the picture on the monitor. For that price I think I'll pass.
