Looking for other ways to show big picture with detail of the action.

Pentax K100D, Tokina 80-400mm @ 80 & 400mm

The inset can work very effectively, like here and with Roger's wildlife pictures. However, in my opinion, it can easily be overdone. Like most things still-life related, I haven't had any success with it. I really like this one.

IIMHO it needs a tighter cropbut irrespective of that,it should be seperated from the main image by applying a mount or border:

I'm in agreement with Catbells, the insert needs to be isolated from the main image - whether the crop needs to be tighter or not, is down to personal preference.
