Woah baby! Nice lens. I was reading up on that lens too. I'd appreciate it if you would post an informal review after you've had a chance to test it out. The things that I'm interesting in are as follows:
- whats your opinion of the autofocus? is it quick and accurate?
- how does it perform at 300mm f4 wide open? sharp?
- how loud is the autofocus motor? the reason i ask is because my sigma 70-300mm apo dg is quite noisy. mine sounds like a drill.
- how does it feel when you are trying to hand hold shots. comfortable?
- can you use the autofocus-continuous setting with this lens? or will it hunt back and forth continuously?
- how does it perform in low light situations? like right before sunset? i'm hoping that the f4 will provide better low light ability than what i have right now which necessitates f8 for optimal sharpness.

eagerly awaiting your thoughts, opinions, and pics! congrats btw!

I got it for 110,000 yen, which is around $950 USD. I wasnt sure how that was compared to other stores at the time, but it was a whole damn cheaper than if i bought it at cost in Australia (I work in a camera store)

The AF is very quick (ie, its faster than my cheap 55-200 sigma 4.5-5.6) and its not loud at all. Continuous AF seemed pretty good, not as good as the Canon USM L series lenses but when Im not spending $4000 on a lens like that im willing to trade that sort of thing.

Ill post some pictures later tonight when i get back from my day trip to Shiga Kogen
