Just got this TC from KEH (relatively el cheapo compared with Pentax 1.7x) after ebaying away my Kenko 2X.

Got these quickie tests shots amid say -15 deg C outside .

Very unscientific test with FA135mm2.8. Of course , no cropping no pp at all.

Very low light indoor shots with wider aperture was not that conclusive.

What do you guys think?

Looks like in good lighting situation, getting that 1.5X is better than cropping.

edited: Oops I should have posted that in the lens section.

Also there is something wrong with the link.

Try this one http://www.pbase.com/danieltong/image/73905878/original. There are just 4 images

The 1.4 and 1.5 should be the same except maybe the 1.5 has 5 elements. As I shot with shutter priority, the 1.5X was done with slightly wider aperture theoretically rendering it less sharp.

I want to simulate the circumstance when I need the TC - I have 2 options. One to use the prime and blow up the image. The other one is to use the TC and get some deterioration but with 50% larger but degraded image.

Interesting exercise and I look forward to flying south for retirement with some wildlife shooting

Roy,

There is subtle difference and the image was degraded somewhat.

Ideally you can use two display to show the two images.

But if you have one monitor, you can use two new window to display this two

Zero in on the licene plate and you can see.

Interesting.

I can confirm that the pict with TC 1.5 does win marginally on sharpness after blowing up the 2ndpict (original) to match the same size as the first one.

Bokeh and color rendition, which are subjective,is another story though.
