Well, I got tired of the less than mediocre results from my teleconverter and I have really wanted to do some nice macros, so I removed the glass from it late last night and snapped a few shots at the computer desk with the 50mm 1.7 and my Tamron "extension tube"

First one focused at infinity...

No, if it were I would have probably resold it seeing as how I only paid about 10 dollars delivered for it from eBay.

1.4 or 1.5x is as far as I would go with a tele converter...

between light lost (and clarity seems to also often fall off at 2x (and sgnificantly at 3) vs 1.5 with a good one being almost unoticeable. (and actually have Tameron's quite good (and reviewed as such) 1.4, but never heard anything (especially good) about the 2x

So did you take out ALL the glass and just make it an extension tube... and what was the lens on top?

Yes, I removed all the glass. So I now have an extention tube that maintains electical connections to be completely usable in allprogram modes, and the best part is that it only cost me about 10 bucks...

...as far as lens goes: SMC-M 50mm f1.7 stopped down to f22

INTERESTING....

Now I guess next question would be how did you get the glass out without destroying the thing

this isan old trick that i posted a couple years ago. mntgal has one and so does ira. the easiest way to get the glass out is use a small hammer.. unless your's is like ira's and meant to be removable.

hayward, i've got tamrons 2X converter and i've gotten good results from it. first 2X i've been close to happy with. i'll be picking up their's or kenko's 1.4-5x soon.
