Nice wheather today, finally

I took the Vivitar 400mm out for a walk. Nice lens to use. Focusing isn't too hard, and if you use a higher ISO, on a sunny day like today it's actually pretty easy to handhold.

Anyway these are my keepers:

I'm pleased about this one:

Didn't notice the heron sitting there until I looked at this one in RSE

He flew by later, but all my shots were out of focus...

I personally like this one too:

Then this one jumped into the river to fetch a stick

This is an "almost". I'm dissappointed I didnt get a good shot of him, there were two of these (hawks?) circling above me, but as soon as I got some shots, they flew away. This is already cropped as far as I could.

This tower was probably about 2 or 3 miles from where I was standing...

All and all I'm pleased with today's results. It was a fun walk, felt good to be outside again, and I made some progress since last time I tried birding. Still a long way to go to reach a level like Roger's or royce's though

Cheers,
Tom

Got some good shots, and as we all own up to, we shoot a lot of almosts.

The impotant thing is to keep practising and maybe we can all get to the experts level.

tom,
you're going to find that focusing on the go is where you'll need the most pratice. it's tough to do.

No it's a lens I got from a store that had vivitars on sale for 10 euros each in Gent.

TDN,

Hey these are nice shots. I'm impressed. I cannot manually focus correctly to save my life. You metered the whites of the geese very well. There was good color saturation and I do like the hawk. Birding is fun. It's nice to go for a hike, get some fresh air, and bring home some beautiful moments. I'm glad you had fun! And at the end of the day, that's what it's all about! Keep on practicing and learning. Each lens has it's own personality and you just have to figure out how to get the most of out it. Looking foward to seeing more of your pics. Oh and welcome to the birding/wildlife club! :G
