It's probaly been discussed here before, but any recommendation on these lens:

Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5,6 Di LD

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG MACRO

i think the sigma may only allow macro at 300mm. at least some of the tamrons i've seen advertised give you a range (maybe 180-300). it's something to check if macro is important to you.

i've got the non apo sigma 70-300 which i've been pretty happy with except for that limit on the macro.

I was VERY unhappy with the SIGMA 28-30mm (Canon)... but quite happy with BOTH the Canon and Pentax versions of the Sigma 70-300mm paired with a Sigma 28-70mm on the Canon, and the Kit 18-55mm on the Pentax K10D.

A LITTLE gap there but pretty negligable, give the crop lattitude of 10MP.

Heard good things of Tameron, but never used one and a bit more expensive.
