seems to be the only weak point in the camera? Is the door as bad as some say. Has anyone had the door pop open and have the batterys fall out. Im a bit anal and wondering if this is a concern I should worry about?

I have a K100D; the battery door is on the bottom of the camera and does not seem physically weak to me. When the 4 AA's are loaded in the camerathey are spring loaded against the door. There is a mechanical slide button to release the door, and thenthe door has to slide out and then swung open to expose the batteries. It does not appear to me that you would have to worry about the door popping open unexpectedly. It hasn't happened to me. Now if you intentionally released the door when the camera is right side up, the batteries might pop out. But it seems to me that if you were intentionally removing/replacing batteries you would be holding the camera upside down to expose the battery door on the bottom of the camera. The batteries don't pop out when holding the camera upside down and releasing the door.

I agree. I don't think the door will open accidentally very easily. Now my Fuji s7000....that door could open very easily.

I don't have a K100D yet, but I can share my experience with my *ist DL. I used some RadioShack rechargable NiMH AAs with my DL. For some reason, these batteries are slightly taller than normal batteries. As a result, they sometimes don't fit as nicely into things, especially things with doors. With the DL, these batteries required a little more force to shut the battery door. Even with this extra spring force pushing against the door, my DL has never spontaneously opened its battery compartment. From my experience, the latch and sliding hook definitely keep the batteries secure.

Actualy that is one thing that surprises me about the K100D that it is not a specialized battery like 10D or its (100D) counterpoints in Canon and Nikon land.

I was long in favor of AA's myself... but battery tech has gotten good enough that the semi propietary (actually the 10D battery is common to Pentax D-150 and Minolta NP-400... but same battery) just last so much longer and more trouble free. And if the door comes open (which on the 10D can't due to the weather seals plus are clipped in and still wouldn't just fall out.

The door can't possibly open by itself since you have to push a button to the side and then push the door to the front to get it open, just can't happen.

Definitely not something to worry about - I've never had the door open on me (the door on the DS, DL and K100 are all the same. I don't know about the D and it is different on the K10, due to the weather sealing).

Yeah it and the mem card slot actually have a half turn crank/key that open/lock them shut on the K10D... the mem slot is spring return self locking but the batt compartment has to be physically/positively locked, plus the battery is also spring clipped in.

Thisactually happened to meonce with my DL and it was in vertical position, so the batteries didn't fall out. I, to this day, know I had to have hit the little slide trigger, but have no clue how. Never had any problems with the D, but it always has the battery grip on it, soI really can'tcompare itto the K-series when it comes to the battery door.
