Trumpeter Swans were introduced back into the wild in Wisconsin about 15 years ago and now there are about 80 pair in North Western Wisconsin. I found these Swans along with some Canada Geese in a remote pond with an open spot in the ice, moved in close and got some interesting shots.

They were swimming around the open part of the pond when one Swan chased another up on the ice. Many of them have neck tags so they can be watched to see how each bird progresses.

Neat photos! It's interesting to see that not all of them have neck tags - I wondered why some would and some wouldn't. They are lovely birds, aren't they?

Thanks, they have to catch them to tag them, so some do and some don't have tags.

Doesn't look like he likes walking on the ice too well. Neat photos.

Hi Tom,

Very nice captures of a species that most of us would never see. On a personal note, I'm glad that you're back suffering with the rest of us in the midwest. I was getting really weary of your exploits in sunny CA while I've been twiddling my thumbs back here :-).

I'm always amazed at the size of swans -- they really dwarf those geese.

How about a close up, kind of like a dance thing?
