Just an opinion. I think Canon has gone off track recently and are in the process of loosing clients due to their recent complacency. Nikon is now number one in Japan and Pentax have taken an even larger market share of 12.8 percent.

Just my take.

Ben, with the release of the 1d mk3, and most likely another prosumer dslr on the way, Id say Canon probably has one of the best lineups out there. They arent in trouble at all

i don't think they need worry but on another mixed board i visit i see C* & N* hardcores recommending pentax as a first dslr to people that ask. it makes my heart warm to see it happen. the last 3 models pentax has released has turned the bucket upside down.

I would not say they are in trouble.
I would say they are facing ever mores serious competition from Pentax with the killer feature SR. Canon, being the dominant player has advantage/edge. But it can only go down in market share. As far as I can see, its market share is declining because of fierce competition. My hunch is that they may go (push) for pushing full frame which is their monopoly (re 5D) now. It is somewhat like buzzword. Whether it is right (that FF is better) is irrelevant. Somewhat like MP count game and they have been pushing for more pixel the better.

Well, it's not because Pentax is doing better that Canon is losing clients. There has just been an explosion of DSLR users lately.

I doubt that sports and portrait photographers who have been using Canon succesfully for years would ever switch over.
I wouldnt if I had a Canon...

Wow, that's a bold move!

I'm afraid not everyone is ready to make a jump like that though Most photographers here in Belgium swear by their brand.

So how does Pentax compare to Canon in your professional shooting scenario's? I'm curious to hear what someone with real experience with another brand thinks about the new Pentaxes.

Tom

P.S.: Had a look on your site. Nice photographs! You have a very personal & distinguished approach, my compliments

My first pro shoot with the K10D was a few weeks ago for "Issue One "Magazine in the UK. If you go to this site and view the first 10 images those were shot with the K10D. The story is called "Divine Inspiration." A story on Six Religions..

Do you have a link to a list of your Pentax equipment? I am interested in what you are shooting with. Your images are scary good!
