The reason that the K100d starts at 200 iso, is probably because of the dynamic range. Acoording to a test (here or at DPreview) the dynamic range is slightly better at 400 iso, compared to 200 iso. So maybe the dynamic range at 100 iso would be noticable less.....

That's my thought!

It is not Pentax who made decision to start at ISO200. ISO200 is native sensitivity of Sony 6Mpix CCD sensor which is used in K100D. All DSLRs which use this sensor (all Pentax *ist series, Nikon D40, D50, D70, D70s) has ISO200 as lowest ISO.

Nothing to worry about.

I use a K100, noise has never been an issue whatsoever at ISO 200 or even 400. If it helps any, these shots were taken with the K100 and are all (IIRC) taken at ISO 200.

With at least two exceptions that I've noticed... the Konica Minolta Maxxum (a.k.a., Dynax, Alpha) 5D and 7D. They're not current models, but they have ISO 100 available if you need it. But, it could be artificial in nature (for example, some reviews show slightly higher noise shooting at ISO 100 versus ISO 200 if you go with JPEG versus raw).

Thanks again. Im blown away with the response. Would still love to have the K10D but will be more than happy with the K100D. Let everyone know when it happens. Cheers Keith
