Is it just me, or don't you get the focus confirmation beep with M42 lenses + adapter?

I was just wondering if this is only happening on my camera or if it's something normal that everyone has.

Which camera???? My K10D does in manual focus, Though depending on the cameras set up you may have to hit the AF button to activae it.

I was wondering the same thing this weekend with my *ist DL and M42 Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4. I have the real Pentax adapter if that matters... It would be great to have the confirmation of focus.

I was playing around with a 135mm pentax M42 screw mount (with a Pentax flush adapter) last week (K100D) and it beeped when I managed to get it in foucs. In fact, I forgot to switch off the auto-focus and it refused to take pictures until the scene was in focus.

Same "beeping" behaviour when I mounted a reversing ring with a 50mm lens yesterday.

Perhaps there's a setting the prevents the camera from reading the focus for non-AF lenses.

TDN: Did you have the body set on AF or MF?

I found a way to enable the focus indicator. Under the "Custom Setting" menu, go down to "FI with S lens used" and set it to "2 Available". It works regardless of the focus setting on the body. This will be a big help in manually focusing as quickly as possible.

Thanks to everyone who contributed, I'm really happy to see my old DL has this feature.

Oh what I would do for a real Hoegaarden... the imported version just doesn't taste the same.

No problem, TDN. I've been lurking around these forums for quite a long time, and you all have helped me improve my technique immensely, it feels good to be able to make a contribution.
