Sold some lenses I was not making much use of to get 12-24mm

Now can cover 12-400mm with three Zooms

Pentax DA 12-24mm F4

Pentax FA 24-90mm F3.5-4.5

Tokina AT X 80-400mm F4-5.6

What do you like for this range?

Looks like good coverage. I go from 16mm to 500mm which suits me, but could do with going wider (maybe) and longer (with better quality).

I KNEW you couldn't be talking about a SINGLE lens.... but looks like a nice though not spectacular but the Thousands $$$ likely collection.

How do you like the 80-400mm that seems like it might be a bit to much of a streatch.

The inexpensive 70-300mm do pretty well and the 70-210mm very well.... that seems a bit long though.

Some 400mm wide open examples maybe?

Well ya know I am stil surprised how well/sharp my CHEAP front 0.4x WA works on my Sigma 28-70 (Bringing it down to like 12mm when needed).

Yes likely more curvature distortion than a true maga $$$$$ WA lens but not bad at all in situations with not a lot of straight lines, given the 10th+ or less cost for occasional need.

No fair posting a reptile! They come with a built-in sharpening filter.

Seriously though, I envy that kind of range. It doesn't appear that the Tokina can be bought for Pentax anymore.

From looking at the Pop Photo ads, it looks like every new lens that Pentax comes out with will also be offered in other mounts by Tokina. I am hoping, at least, that the reverse will soon hold true and every Tokina lens will at least be available as a Pentax lens.
