I have an opportunity to get either a FA 50mm f/1.4 lens or an AF 360 FZ flashgun, and I can't decide which to go for.

Bit of background: I have a smc-Pentax 50mm f/1.4 lens, but it's fully manual.

Now, the lens is being offered for $180. The flash is being offered at $160.

Which should I get? I can't get both, at least not right now.

I dunno but all things being equal I would say the lens woud be more productive/usefull.

Unless you intend it only as a casual lens.

At first, I had m42 Helios 58mm/f2 and later bought FA 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Helios is a great lens but detaching of m42 adapter is too complicated, especially somewhere in low light (concerts, etc.) Not to mention that AF work well with such a bright lens.

So I use only FA now.

Since FA 1.4/50 is hard to get and you can get it on really good price – take it. I have paid it 270 EUR in Europe, which is 325$ !!!

Pentax flashes are much easier to purchase then lenses; you can still get it later.

Depends on the photography you do.

I have a 50mm f1.7 lens I don't use that often, but I bought a Sigma flash which I use on most outings at some point.

Now I have my K10D I am lost as I have to get the Sigma flash re-chipped.

So personally I would go for the flash.

Well, I usually take urban or scenic photos, as well as still life shots outdoors. I'm guessing I should lean towards the lens if that's the case?
