I was in Freiburg, Germany a couple of days ago. The weather was fantastic. I got some pix of some of the kids in the town square enjoying it.

Cools shots. Always a pleasure to see children enjoying themelves. Totally unselfconscious.

Mind you, shoot that over here and risk being beaten or arrested!

Darren and all, As I was taking these I was wondering if there is some protocol for taking pictures of people. Should I have taken them at all? Is there something we should know before we attempt this sort of thing?

As far as I know, so long as you are in a public place, you can take pictures of people with no model release etc. BUT some people do object to having their picture taken, which is why a longish telephoto is ideal, and over here especially the media has blown it all out of proportion, that anyone with a camera taking pics of children is a paeodaphile. Even if they are your own children.

It is just a case of beware and be careful.

The back lit hair makes the kids look angelic--nice effect and very appropriate for the subject. It is not an effect that can be achieved through post processing and therefore truly captures the skill of the photographer. Many kudos to you!
