That gator sure looks bigger than anything I'd want to be around.
It's OK for me, as long as the gator is not around me!

Thanks for all the replies ya'll. I am not entirely happy with these shots but it did teach me something about post processing and the value of shooting in RAW. Our lake goes through an algea bloom every spring that turns it mud puddle brown (it is normally a clear water lake, at least clear waterfor this area). My historiogram (right word I think) in Lightroom showed one very narrow spike all the way to the top of the chart and nothing anywhere else. The photos had almost no contrast at all as the gator and the water blended in. Mainly through trial and error I found how to bring at least a little more contrast into the scene and improve what I had.

In Florida you just have to accept the fact there are gators in lakes like you know that there are sharks in the ocean. This one is bigger than I am comfortable with, though, as my dogs drink from the lake and we, of course, swim there. In the five years we have lived here, though, similar large gators do not seem to hang around long. It is a nice neighborhood where people watch out for each other and word will pass from neighbor to neighbor that the gator "has left the lake." I just smile and never ask questions.
