It is way more likely that the problem is in the card than in the camera... I have had a couple SD cards die on me... just replace them and keep going.

Mystery solved - sort of. There is a useful thread on fake SD and CF cards in the card forumthat everyone should look at. I went to the Sandisk site to look at the high resolution pictures of the cards as suggested and they are indeed not genuine - they do not have the requisitenotch at the bottom. There are no serial numbers onthe back either. They do read as having the correct capacity and have labels indistinguishable from the originals, and so are pretty good fakes, but fakes nonetheless. If not for this incident, I never would have suspected, as they work well in the K100D (so far, at least). They were ebay purchases, so caveat emptor!
