For those who do not stray from this forum,¬*there have been¬*recent discussions of kit lenses in the Pentax lens forum¬*¬*Here are a couple of shots of a medallion, the left with a Digi-Slave Ultra II L Ring (an LED ring¬*light) and the right with oblique illumination from lamps.¬* Images were taken hand-held with the K100D and the 18-55 kit lens.¬*¬*They are straight from the camera without manipulation, originally at 1536 X 1024 each, cropped and reduced for combination into one emailable jpeg at 72dpi and a little under 640X320 pixels.¬* The face has¬*really high relief. ¬*I took these for a couple of friends who were contemplating Pentax DSLR purchases.¬* Not too shabby for an inexpensive lens.

N.B.¬* As has been correctly pointed out elsewhere these, being¬*somewhere between 1:1 and 1:2, are by strictest definition close-ups, rather than macros.¬* But they are close. . . .

I agree. The kit lens remains my widest angle lens and because of that I still use it quite a bit. I find it to be a lens I can count on and I am seldom disappointed with it.
